Uses of Placemats

Placemats are designed to rest beneath your dinner plate and utensils to protect your tabletop from heat and from spills as moisture can damage wooden surfaces. However, placemats can be used beneath more than just table settings. They can also be used as trivets for hot dishes placed in the center of your table. If you are using a floral centerpiece, they can be placed beneath the centerpiece for a decorative look as well as for protecting your table. Use placemats anywhere you do not want to get a stain or spill. - eHow

To make your shopping complete, I have here a few Bamboo Placemats which you might like to consider adding on your list of purchases before you email me at aileentupas [at] yahoo.com. Teehee!

One set consists of 6 pieces. I saw a similar one in Chatuchak market but I noticed that local designers used a thicker type of bamboo (like a square type chopstick) which costs 35 Baht each piece. These below, each strand of bamboo stick they used is half the size of a toothpick. So it is lighter and easy to wash.

I am finding that I really love decorating with them as well. How? Here are some ideas you may want to consider:

1 - Sort them by colors, and size, and use all the same sized ones, with complimentary colors to make a table runner, or table cloth. You can assemble this with lose hand-stitched whip stiches, that don’t damage the scarf.

2 - Drape them over lampshades. I do this here with lamps that have 40 watt bulbs. If you do this, be very sure you don’t have your scarf too close to your bulb or that you use a bulb of a higher wattage than 40 watts.

3 - I have also used scarves to cover lifts that I use to raise some items up in some of my tablescapes. For instance, loosely cover an empty small box with a pretty scarf, set it on a table and place a small figurine on the box. Then add two other items to the display, nestled in the folds and drapes of the scarf.

4 - Create a new lamp by standing a thin lamp inside a vintage handbag, then drape a scarf out of the handbag, with some jewelry and a pair of glasses. I did this and I love it.

5 - I use some of my larger scarves as a drape over my wicker chairs. They can be used as a “slipcover” for a chair seat, using pins on the back of the cushion to secure the scarf in place and not damage it.

6 - Use your scarves as dresser scarves.

7 - Frame them. If you do so between two pieces of acrylic, you can hang them where they can be seen from both sides. A good place to do this is over a table like a chandelier or in a place where you want a small “room divider - something where you want your eye to divide the room, but not have all the space taken up by a true room divider.

8 - Use them as a curtain valance by just draping them over your curtain rods.

9 - I have some draped over the edge of some of my display shelves here. They add another element to the displays by breaking up the straight lines of the shelf edges.

10 - Hang scarves topped with hats off a peg rack to make a wall display.

Hopefully, you will find some of these ideas useful for that collection of yours. I look at my scarves as pieces of art, and like to display them accordingly.

People in the cities have limited viewing capability when it comes to watching television. Most of the time busy people are hooked up to their computers. In this new era of technology people seem to find the solution with efficient approach to its target markets. Here’s the latest entertainment buzz that I have discovered.

In the shopping malls, there are countless promotional signs to grab shoppers attention. One of which is the good old buy one take one promotion. Indeed it appears catchy to many causing impulsive decisions that makes one easily forget about the budget.

What do you think happens when two technologies will merge into one? For example watching television on your computers. Do you think it’s possible? Definitely it is now. Same principle applies for the buy one take one. With just one computer, you will also get a wholesome entertainment experience anytime. N2News can make you quit spending hours waiting for the latest free to air tv stations in the internet and avoid getting lags every now and then. What’s good as it have 24 hours technical support that answers even the basic needs of subscribers. They offer thousands of channels to view using the FTA or Free to Air receiver which is the latest innovation in sattelite technology. Get started and access your favorite channels in your PC.

It all seems pretty simple, yet very helpful for day to day household needs.

Did you know that……

A sealed envelope - Put in the freezer for a few hours, then slide a knife under the flap. The envelope can then be resealed. (hmmmmmm…)

Use Empty toilet paper roll to store appliance cords. It keeps them neat and you can write on the roll what appliance it belongs to.

For icy door steps in freezing temperatures: get warm water and put Dawn dish washing liquid in it. Pour it all over the steps. They won’t refreeze.

To remove old wax from a glass candle holder, put it in the freezer for a few hours. Then take the candle holder out and turn it upside down. The wax will fall out.

Stain marks on walls? This worked wonderfully! A damp rag, dipped in baking soda. Comes off with little effort (elbow grease that is!).

Permanent marker on appliances/counter tops (like store receipt BLUE!) - rubbing alcohol on paper towel.

Blood stains on clothes? Not to worry! Just pour a little hydrogen peroxide on a cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood. Works every time! (Now, where to put the body?) LOL

Use vertical strokes when washing windows outside and horizontal for inside windows. This way you can tell which side has the streaks.

Straight vinegar will get outside windows really clean. Don’t wash windows on a sunny day. They will dry too quickly and will probably streak.

Spray a bit of perfume on the light bulb in any room to create a lovely light scent in each room when the light is turned on.

Place fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes will smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You can also do this with towels and linen.

Candles will last a lot longer if placed in the freezer for at least 2 to 3 hours prior to burning.

To clean artificial flowers, pour some salt into a paper bag and add the flowers. Shake vigorously as the salt will absorb all the dust and dirt and leave your artificial flowers looking like new! Works like a charm!

To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on stove top.

Spray your TUPPERWARE with non-stick cooking spray before pouring in tomato based sauces and there won’t be any stains.

Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.

When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the corn’s natural sweetness.

Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half, and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.

Don’t throw out all that leftover wine: Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces …….. Left over wine? What’s that?

To get rid of itch from mosquito bites, try applying soap on the area and you will experience instant relief.

Ants, ants, ants everywhere …. Well, they are said to never cross a chalk line. So, get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants tend to march. See for yourself.

Use air-freshener to clean mirrors. It does a good job and better still, leaves a lovely smell to the shine.

When you get a splinter, reach for the scotch tape before resorting to tweezers or a needle. Simply put the scotch tape over the=2 0splinter, and then pull it off. Scotch tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily.

Now look what you can do with Alka Seltzer.…. …

Clean a toilet. Drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush and flush. The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous China

Clean a vase - to remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water and drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets.

Polish jewelry - drop two Alka Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and immerse the jewelry for two minutes.

Clean a thermos bottle - fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka Seltzer tablets, and let soak for an hour (or longer, if necessary).

Unclog a drain - clear the sink drain by dropping three Alka Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar. Wait a few minutes and then run the hot water.

In line with this, I am promoting my friend’s Kusina Habana which specializes on catering, couture cakes and pastry services. This business is based in the beautiful city of Cebu, Philippines. They basically cater local customers but orders are welcome from around the world. You may order directly by email or place the items on your virtual cart. These items then could be paid by credit card or paypal account.

Kusina Habana’s services will surely exceed your expectation. Not only with its carefully crafted pastries which I use to order and send to my family in Cebu, but also with how they handle their customer needs quickly.

Domain owners with the main purpose of registering relevant domain names and parking it for sale is one good domain business. Now here is a buzz wherein there’s this service that keep things easy for people who wish to purchase domain. The newly revamped free domain appraisal LeapFish.com has recently been released due to public demand.

This service is introduced through the search engine’s existing search field and within few seconds of entering the name of site a valuation result will be available. More information are ready for further study by clicking on the valuation dollar figure. It shows the overall score and the individual score like this.

Individual Scores
Domain Length Score: ___/100
Domain Popularity Score: ___/100
Domain Links Score:___/100
Domain Exposure Score:___/100
Domain Traffic Score:___/100

To find out how much your website is worth, visit www.leapfish.com and enter your domain name on the search bar on top. It’s one good assessment tool before jumping in to final decision of selling your well cared website. Perhaps you may wonder how it is done. “The new domain appraisal service utilizes a complex proprietary valuation algorithm that considers length, traffic, age, link popularity and many other factors,” said Behzad Behrouzi, Director of Product for LeapFish.”
